Beware the Ides of March!
That is, beware if your name is Julius Caesar, and you live in ancient Rome, and have an overly noble Brutus to deal with.
The Ides of March are just one of those superstitions that seem to thrive in certain places, especially theaters. Other theater superstitions include:
Don't whistle in a theater.
Don't tell an actor "Good Luck."
And, the most dreaded of all...don't say...The Scottish Play! Meaning Macbeth.
Tonight is the opening night of a show I'm in (West Side Story). On the Ides of March. My director is worried, but doesn't mention it.
Ides, basically means the 15th. Romans used it as a date, so the "Ides of March" isn't any special witching hour. Caesar was simply told to be on his guard on march 15th. If he had listened, he wouldn't have been stabbed in the back nearly 40 times.
The moral of this story? Listen to Soothsayers.

Weary? XD Okay, I gotta stop laughing at typos. *faceslap*
ReplyDeleteAnyway . . . I did notice that today was the Ides. Pretty cool.
Heheheh. 'Weary.' Homonyms/homophones give a completely different meaning to the sentence sometimes. :P
ReplyDeleteI always find the opening night the worst; all the catastrophes happen. All the kinks are worked out during that show. *winces at multiple memories* I WOULD tell you 'good luck,' but . . .
Break a leg! ;-D
